Al Dunham was born in Zwiebruken, Federal Republic of Germany. His Parents were posted there with the Royal Canadian Air Force at this time. He attended schools on many Canadian Armed Forces Bases until his Father retired to Brandon Manitoba, where he graduated from Crocus Plains Secondary School. Al attended Assiniboine Community College where he received a diploma in industrial welding and heavy-duty mechanics. Al joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1980 as an Artilleryman (field). After 5 years with the Guns, Al remustered to Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers for the rest of his career. He retired from the Canadian Armed Forces Primary Reserves (Army) on 01 July 2016 as a Master Warrant Officer after 37 years of service to the Crown. Al Dunham now works with the Department of National Defense in a civilian position at Base Supply Canadian Forces Base Shilo Manitoba. Al is a member of the Army Navy & Air Force Veterans in Canada, Brandon Unit #10. He has served his Unit in many positions including Veterans services officer, Sergeant at Arms, chair of the Membership and Constitution & Bylaws committees, Vice Presidents positions and as the Unit President for 2 terms. Al was elected to the Manitoba & NW Ontario Provincial Command and served as Command Veterans Service Officer. Constitution and Bylaws Officer and Vice President before being elected to serve as a Dominion Executive Officer. He has volunteered as a member of the Dominion Colour Party at numerous Dominion Conventions. Al has been recognized with the Unit Past President award, Appreciation award and American Legion Friendship Award. He enjoys working with the various members of the association to enhance the welfare of Veterans and their families and has made lifelong friends across the country. Al is a charter member of the City of Brandon Veterans Memorial Committee and has worked on the City of Brandon New Veterans Field of Honour Committee. He has worked with the Chronic Pain Centre.
